We live in a culture now where everyone is trying to focus only on positivity and happiness. Well, that can work against you if you are not careful. A well balanced productive person and/or great leader is one who is aware of the strengths and weaknesses not only of themselves, but also those on their team. In other words, we must look at the negatives or our weaknesses and have the wisdom to use them to our advantage and reach our goals.
I see posters like this circulating all around social media and it sounds like it makes sense, but it is simply not biblical. Not only do we need to face the uncomfortable and hard things about ourselves, but we also are called to deal with difficult and sinful people. Jesus spent most of his time with the sick, poor and even His enemies. I do not believe it was predicated on them to “lift Jesus higher.”
We must be careful not to let the humanistic brainwashing strategies of the culture influence our mentality and attitudes as believers and disciples of Christ. We have to remember that we are called the Body Of Christ for a reason. We compliment one another. God uses our weaknesses/negatives as well as strengths/positives for His glory. He said His strength is made perfect in our weakness (2 Corinthians 12:8-10). That goes against everything the world teaches! Yes we are to look on the bright side and think on good things, although, we also are called to examine ourselves, face our sinful nature and trust God to cover us where we have no control over our deficiencies. We are called to deal with the broken hearted, unlovable, the poor, the weak, the hungry, the downtrodden, etc… That does not sound like a bunch that will lift me higher, I must look to Christ to lift me higher. Of course, God will also bring encouragers in our life. He gives us those brothers and sisters in Christ who lift our spirits, but that does not mean we neglect or reject those who can offer us nothing. Remember, in all things we must rely on The Holy Spirit to give us balance and wisdom. A negative + a positive can = a positive! Therefore, do not be quick to hop on the Positive/Happy Train with the world. We need The joy of The Lord to sustain us and “lift us higher”, not this trendy positivity and happiness that is fleeting.
Life must evolve beyond the self-centered microcosmic focus of the individual for it to be the least bit fulfilling.
Yes, it has been a while since I’ve posted something. I have been in a cocoon of prayer and focus on God for this year that is upon us. How about you? Do you take time in December or at the beginning of the year in focused prayer and reflection? Do you take time to ask God, what you need to improve upon, cut out, or make peace with? Examining our lives should be a natural part of life. It is like the pruning of a tree, it makes the tree healthier and it grows. It is going before God and allowing Him to prune us by our willingness, which is much easier than when He HAS to do it because we are not listening. Paul the Apostle teaches…
“Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Or do you not realize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you fail to meet the test!” -2 Corinthians 13:5
We should not live a life assuming that because we participate in many spiritual activities or rituals, that we are still on the straight and narrow.
13 “Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. 14 For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few. -Matthew 7:13-14
You see, it is up to us to enter. Yes, of course, God never forsakes us, but we sure can wander off the path from Him. There are many examples in scripture of this slow fade back into complacency, lukewarmness, then ultimately forsaking Him altogether. What a scary thought. Therefore, I encourage you followers of Christ Jesus IN THE BIBLE (you have to clarify nowadays, because there are so many who have redefined Christ to fit their own needs), stop, reflect, get quiet in prayer and the study of God’s word; even do a little fasting and seek His face. Make sure you have not wandered off the path even a tiny bit, for it is easy to do these days, there are so many false teachings and distractions. Fail proof your New Year by refocusing on Christ and you will be in for a beautiful and exciting ride!!!!♥
Do not boast. Your flesh is just the right set of circumstances away from the unthinkable… -Kinley Pink♥
It is not until we are willing to identify, admit and face the ugly reality of our sin that God can come in and redeem, heal and restore us unto righteousness. His righteousness through Christ Jesus is a gift from Him, that way none of us can boast (Ephesians 2:8-9). Face it, sin is ugly, but no sin is worthy of us living in shame and/or guilt. God is able to give us beauty for ashes. Although, we cannot for one minute justify, belittle, or gloss over the truth of sin. We must view sin according to God’s standards not the world’s or our standards. Decide who is your authority. Is it this world, the government, your family, your friends? As Christ followers we must decide that God defines what is sin and what is wrong, not us or anyone else.
“There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.” Once we are willing to face the ugly truth of sin in our lives and look into the mirror saying, “Yes I was or I am a (fill in the blank) or whatever, but God has cleansed me from all unrighteousness and I can walk as a child of light with my eyes on Jesus, shutting the mouth of the devil because I am no longer ashamed, but what the devil meant for harm God will use it for His glory!!!! God can use whatever the devil was trying to bury us with!!!! BUT first, we must let go of our pride, guilt, and shame and admit the wretchedness of our sin. Sin does not become ok or not as bad, just because I did it or are doing it!
No one of us is better than the other, we have all fallen short. Do not give satan satisfaction by glossing over your sin. Come clean, admit your sin and faults so God can set you free and He can freely move in your life.♥
