Damage Control: 5 Steps to refocusing on your goals.

The words I Quit written on a yellow sticky pad of paper written in black.

How often do you think this when the road gets tough?

Many times when we get our bright ideas, we are excited and caught up in the beginning of our creativity. Although, we must remember executing and then traveling through the process to reach a goal has many stumbling blocks. It is those moments that determine our victory. Do I get frustrated and give up, procrastinate, or function sub par? None of those choices will get us where we want to be. We must determine out the gate, if this is what we really want, that quitting is not an option. We must determine in our heart and mind to reach the finish line.finish-line-300x199

This means we should have a plan of strategic moves in the times of discouragement. After-all, it happens to the best of us! Sure there are those rare times when we set out to do a project or start the path towards our dream and everything flows without any interruptions, but this is not the norm.  Life says that anything worth having or building does not come with ease. It comes with much preparation, resolve and perseverance! Let me ask you, do you have a strategic plan of action for those moments of discouragement?

I recently had a challenge even with this blog and starting my YouTube channel. It seems though as soon as I had everything set up and ready to go, the flood gates of interruptions were opened. Everything that could come up in my life did. Nothing bad, just unexpected business and family issues that I did not have before. I looked up and two months had gone by without me blogging or working on my channel. I had to recognize what was happening and strategize so that it does not happen again…. When you’ve fallen off your game, here are 5 steps to getting your focus back!

  1. Remember why you started the project in the first place and list the benefits:  Remind yourself why you had enough creativity and ingenuity to begin this project or goal in the first place. Be specific and write it down. You may need the reminder when you run into road blocks.

  2. Forgive yourself: its easy to camp out in guilt or loserville, beating yourself up and making things worse or you can decide to put it all behind you and continue on, while learning where and how you missed the mark.

  3. Have make-up days or times already in your calendar: Not only should you have tasks in your calendar, but primary or important tasks should have a make-up day/time scheduled as well, that will allow you to still reach your goal in the midst of unexpected interruptions.

  4. Put others on notice!: Share your goal with family and anyone else who could possibly be an interruption. You do not have to go into specific details, but just let them know you are in an important season where focus is needed and you may not be as available as you once were. It will prepare them for the word NO.

  5. Make peace with saying NO!: This is still a hard one for me, but we must recognize our seasons in life and know that we cannot do everything all the time. If you have started a business, a blog, gone back to school, or in your first year or two of marriage; you have to be fully engaged and focused. That means saying NO to those things that will steal your focus. Those who truly care about us will understand. It also creates accountability and may even excite those who will cheer us on!

Now get back up and get going! Here is the bonus tip: Pray, Pray, and Pray some more. Ask God to lead you and He will. He loves when we are doing things that bring Him glory!

Get Moving & Be Better!!♥

You do not need Christ to be successful.

When I read some of the writings by heretics, secular motivational speakers, philosophers, gurus, etc… I see that many of them are using bible scripture to strengthen their teachings. This is alarming. Why, you say? Well, God’s Word IS true. He also, created a biblical principle that rains on the just and the unjust alike; which is seedtime and harvest. What about this scripture, “Give and it shall be given unto you, etc…” The bible teaches that “whatever a man sows, that shall he also reap.” Ironically, what has happened is the world has caught on that biblical principles are great teachings and they work when applied in a person’s life. Being a Christ follower is not a prerequisite. Therefore, they practice these principles, aside from The true God who created them, and seem to have great success. Some of these teachers even act like they made up these principles. It’s indicative of human nature, to not want Jesus telling us what to do with our lives, we just want His blessings. The sad part is they reap these harvests because God is a just God and true to His word, but they end up with a false sense of success and blessing. Also, trust me, satan is on the scene helping them to take credit for all “their” wisdom and success. Therefore, I beg to differ with those who say, “you cannot have a successful life without God…” I dare to say, oh yes you can! According to The world’s definition of success, many people now and in times past, have lived their whole lives enjoying a decent life without God. They are educated, they have a great career, financial freedom, a great family, they are able to travel and are privileged with many other enjoyments. Oh sure, they have struggled with a few life tragedies, no different from the rest of us, but they get by and carry on. They are even impressive on how much they love and care about others and give of their time and money to help humanitarian efforts in their communities or around the world. They are a “good person” in the eyes of many, but there is just one problem. They have rejected Jesus Christ and have decided not to follow Him and this one greatest variable makes everything else worthless. They will be hailed at their funeral as a great person and end up in the lake of fire. The prideful and arrogant heart cannot accept the truth that we were created to worship God The Father, through His Son Jesus Christ. Yes, you were made for God. He created you for Himself. Any success without Him will leave you ultimately sorrowful. If you don’t believe me, ask the rich young ruler in the bible.

Matthew 19:16-22 (NKJV)

Jesus Counsels the Rich Young Ruler

16 Now behold, one came and said to Him, “Good Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life?”

17 So He said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God. But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments.”

18 He said to Him, “Which ones?”

Jesus said,

You shall not murder,’ ‘You shall not commit adultery,’ ‘You shall not steal,’ ‘You shall not bear false witness,’ 19 ‘Honor your father and your mother,’ and, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ ”

The young man said to Him, “All these things I have kept from my youth. What do I still lack?”

Jesus said to him, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.”

But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.

How about you? How do you define a successful life, a great life? What is more important to you, how the world views you or how God does? Satan and the world’s system has made it trendy to kick Jesus out, but keep His stuff!!! Do not fall in that camp. I encourage you to not let the world define your life and success and please never try to have success without God. Words can’t describe a life filled with His guidance and presence. I would not trade Him for all the success or money this world has to offer.♥

It’s time… Ask

oie_V2loLDfWBaU7What are you doing about your dreams and goals? Do you have passions that are deep in your heart and mind that just won’t go away and you feel they are never going to materialize? Are you a jack of all trades, but master of none? Well that is just not true, we are all seamlessly gifted at something we have mastered effortlessly. Sometimes we are so used to performing in that area we do not see it as a gift or talent. I’m just here to remind you today that your life is but a vapor. The years creep by undetected it seems. Many of us have these dreams, passions, gifts, and talents tucked away inside because we just do not know where to begin to redirect our lives to the path of doing what we love. The unexpected circumstances of life steers us in a direction we did not plan many times and we just can’t seem to get back on track or even find the track! I’m sure not going to tell you it is easy to “make it happen”, but it sure is possible. Although, I believe it takes us to reach our limit of dissatisfaction with our current path. We need to reach the point where continuing “business as usual” is no longer an option and we are ready to do whatever it takes to turn the ship around.

It’s like walking into a room so cluttered and messy, you get overwhelmed and do not know where to even begin to unclutter the mess. Well, have you ever thought about getting some assistance, a coach perhaps? Sometimes we need someone to coach us through what to do and where to begin. Two hands and heads are always better than one when it comes to tackling a big project or untangling a huge mess. It takes courage and humility to ask for help and many times it is that simple. You have not because you ask not. Do not wait any longer to reorganize your life and pursue the calling God has placed inside of you. It’s time to ask for help and meet the new you and a new life.♥

Forget a fifth grader, are you smarter than God?

There is no wisdom and knowledge that is more life changing than that of our Lord’s. When you spend time in prayer and study in His word, you are training yourself to live an enriching and Godly life and how to impart that enrichment to others. God’s ways are higher than our ways and His thoughts higher than our thoughts. You cannot give people what you do not have yourself. Be a student of, a sister and a brother of Christ, that you may truly be a blessing to others. Try to never give people your carnal or worldly wisdom or advice, it profits them nothing. Instead find out what God says about every situation. #Bible #JesusKnowsBetter #StudyTheBible #KinleyPink #InspirationalPink ♥
